- Fall modified PEERS: During the Fall 2026 semester (mid September-early December 2026), teens are taught in an in-person group setting (at UMD). A few virtual sessions are offered to make up for the Thanksgiving holiday week and to fit all sessions within a University Fall semester schedule.
- Separate student and parent groups are offered a variety of social interaction/communication style options and, are given the opportunity to choose and practice these skills in teaching sessions during role-play, discussion, didactic, and other types of activities.
- The PEERS program has been modified to remove the lessons that encourage high school teens to “mask” who they are. Recent research has shown masking elevates anxiety and depression. New lessons have been added to teach the teens self-advocacy skills to include disclosure of needs and other support.
- Parent group receives supplemental lessons related to self-advocacy, executive functions at home, and wellness/self-care strategies among other topics.
